DR. PRINCE C. OTENG-BOATENG, Ph.D., RMFT-S, CCS, ACS, CPCS, CSAT, CMAT

AAMFT Approved Supervisor, CAMFT Registered Marriage and Family Therapist & Supervisor, Certified Marriage Educator, PACCP Certified Professional Counselling Supervisor, CCE Approved Clinical Supervisor, Approved Practicum Supervisor (Yorkville University), Registered Provisional Psychologist (specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology), Sex Addiction and Trauma Therapist, Certified Multiple Addictions Therapist

For over 28 years, Dr. Prince Oteng-Boateng has been a therapist, pastor, and teacher with a rich international experience and a solid educational background and training from some of the leading experts in the field of psychology. Born in Akoase, Ghana, as the seventh child of a chief, Dr. Oteng-Boateng has lived and worked across multiple countries on four continents — Africa, Asia, Australia, and North America — a journey that has profoundly shaped both his clinical practice and his understanding of what it means to pursue wholeness across cultural boundaries. That experience taught him early that healing doesn’t follow a single path — that every person arrives carrying their own framework of meaning, shaped by culture, faith, and history. Honouring that complexity is not an add-on to good clinical work. It is the work.

Dr. Oteng-Boateng is passionate and dedicated to serving clients in a meaningful way — listening carefully, and helping people understand and work through their mental, emotional, and behavioral struggles so they can lead lives that feel genuinely their own. He works at the intersection of clinical psychology, Christian faith, and cross-cultural wisdom, not because these frameworks occasionally overlap, but because for most people the deepest struggles involve all three at once. He has been married for thirty-one years, and brings to his work not just clinical expertise but the lived experience of a long marriage — with all its challenges, growth, and grace.

Dr. Oteng-Boateng received his BA (Honours) Degree in Religious Studies and Education from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, a Master of Divinity Degree from the Asia United Theological University (ACTS), and a Master of Theology Degree in Christian Counselling from Torch University in Seoul, Korea. In addition, Dr. Oteng-Boateng received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Seoul National University. His doctoral dissertation focused on the impact of forgiveness on conflict and marital satisfaction among expatriate couples.

Dr. Oteng-Boateng has completed a two-year APA accredited Post-Doctoral program following the Houston Model training with specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California, under the supervision of the renowned Prof. Arnold Purisch, Board-Certified Neuropsychologist and co-developer of the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Assessment Battery. He completed his Post-Doctoral internship in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Southern California Neuropsychology Group, his clinical pastoral education and internship in clinical counselling at the Canberra Hospital and the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia, and his doctoral residency in counselling psychology at the Calgary Counselling Centre.

After completing seminary training, Dr. Oteng-Boateng served for twelve years as the senior pastor of Seoul Union Church — the oldest Protestant congregation in Korea, founded in 1885 by the first missionaries to bring the Christian gospel to the Korean peninsula. He was the first and only African pastor in the church’s 140-year history. Alongside his pastoral role, he maintained a private counselling practice serving the expatriate community, and helped establish the Family Life Center — a marriage and family counselling service for United States service members and their families. Those twenty years shaped him in ways that no textbook could. He learned what it means to accompany people through real suffering — not from a clinical distance, but pastorally, personally, at the intersection of mind, body, and spirit. That integration is what he brings to every session today.

Over the years, Dr. Oteng-Boateng has helped individuals, couples, and families turn difficult circumstances around — moving from stuck to steady, from fractured to more whole. His experience of living and counselling across multiple continents, with clients from diverse ethnic, cultural, and faith backgrounds, has given him a depth of cultural awareness that is genuinely inclusive. He doesn’t bring a single template to the work. He brings curiosity, respect, and the flexibility that comes from having seen how differently human beings make meaning.

What clients often say is that they feel genuinely heard — not managed. Dr. Oteng-Boateng brings clinical precision and pastoral warmth to the same room. He speaks the language of neuroscience and the language of grace, and he knows when each one is needed most. For clients who hold a faith perspective, that dimension can weave meaningfully into the work. For those without a faith background, it stays quietly in the background — always available, never imposed. If you’re ready to do the work, he’ll meet you there.

Dr. Oteng-Boateng’s first book, Are You Married or Happy? — a clinical, spiritual, and cross-cultural guide to marriage — is forthcoming.
